Back on the bike today. Nice and dry day for once, except for a heavy shower on top of the North York Moors. We stuck closely to the planned route, passing through Newcastle, over the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, past the Angel of the North sculpture, over various County Durham hills, through Durham itself, and through Sedgefield to Stockton and its brand new Infinity Bridge.
The it was a steep climb up to the North York Moors. The descent to Sandsend was terrifying but the views were spectacular.
148km in 6h46 + ~2h20 stopping time.
Whitby is absolutely lovely. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves:

Pie yesterday, chips today….. athlete food rules.
25% downhill is steep, worse when you have weight to carry. Hope the weather stays good, i think today (fri) an tomor (sat) are good, but sunday looks miserable. I bet that is the last long day of the ride too.
Stick with it.
Hey Ols and Dan,
Good work! Even looking at those percentages is making my knees hurt.
Tom’s bike still in bits so it’ll be the three of you going to the Giffords. Could you let Lorna know what time you’ll be arriving and whether you’ll need feeding? I imagine you will. They are very happy to accommodate you. No problem.
Good luck. See you in East London.
